Chama Train and Clouds Giclée Canvas
Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, C&TS
Photo by Karen Butts October 12, 2018 Chama New Mexico
The train trip, the Chama Limited from and return to Chama New Mexico (elevation 7,860’), is a beautiful ride through the mountains to Osier where you’ll disembarked for lunch and take in the high mountain air – 1,800’above Chama! Lunch is tasty and before boarding the train for your return trip to Chama you can have a nice stroll along the tracks. We were tickled to find some small lumps of coal that we brought home for Christmas stockings!
The original trains and tracks were constructed in 1880 as part of the Rio Grande’s narrow gauge San Jaun Extension and served the silver mining industry of southwestern Colorado. The recreational operation began in 1971.
Visit their website at www.friendsofcumbrestoltec.org or, call to reserve seats (888)286-2737, trains run through October 21st this season.
