This dramatic flower blooms mostly at night and produces a heavy, sweet fragrance. it is funnel shaped, 5”-7” long and 3”-4” across. Once pollinated by the hummingbird sized White Lined Sphinx moth, flowers become round thorny fruits filled with numerous flat brown seeds. All parts of this plant are poisonous and potentially psychoactive.
Georgia O’Keeffe famously painted this flower several times. Her Jimson Weed/White Flower No.1, 1932 sold in 2014 for $44.4 million dollars at auction.
