Monsoon season in the Southwest runs June 15 to September 30, during this period we typically receive 30% of our annual rainfall. The summer season is lush with grasses and flowers growing vigorously – a blush of green covers the high desert environment and wildflowers accent the scene.
How does this happen? Meteorologically, as the atmosphere heats up and high-pressure builds, warm moist air moves in from the Gulf of Mexico and collides with the cool mountain air producing rain. The rain is welcome, the native people call it a blessing and it surely is. Dramatic skies are a daily scene, great billowing clouds abound, and dramatic thunderstorms are a daily occurrence.
