Ancient Civilizations of North America
European explorers in the 15th century and beyond had a biased view of the indigenous cultures they encountered in North America, seeing them as primitive and valuing them only for potential wealth. However, with modern archaeology and a new perspective on history, we are now able to learn more about the sophisticated cultures and their true stories. The course “Ancient Civilizations of North America” is offered to provide a deeper understanding of these ancient cultures through lectures, maps, photos and illustrations, and 3-D models, and is taught by Professor Edwin Barnhart, an expert on the Maya civilization.
