Artist Diane Walton Reitz

Artist Diane Walton Reitz has been painting and drawing since childhood. Her mother was a teacher and artist who traveled to Santa Fe and Taos in the early 1930’s and studied with Alexandre Hogue.

Diane studied art through high school and traveled to Baltimore, Maryland in the 1980’s to study with Hans and Anne Schuler at Schuler Fine Art School where she learned the techniques of the Old Masters, including underpainting, figure drawing, sculpting, and how to make the Maroger medium formulated by the Reanaissance artists and brought back to use by Jacques Maroger.

In 1991 Diane began her studies to earn a Bachelors of Fine Art Degree with a Specialty in Illustration and was on the Dean’s List in her Junior year! Before graduating in 1995, she began teaching art. She moved to New Mexico in 1998 where she has continued to learn and teach others, first at her studio at Nob Hill, and then at Harwood Art Center, Mazono Mesa Multigenerational Center, UNM, PAAKO, Cedar Crest and various centers.

Diane has been teaching in the Chama Valley for 5 years and continues to teach in her studio.
